Last week, CNN launched its new streaming service, CNN+, featuring live shows, original series and interactive interviews. Excitingly, Levi Strauss & Co. CEO Chip Bergh is among the first business leaders in Poppy Harlow’s new series “Boss Files.”
Set at our Eureka Innovation Lab, the episode features Chip sitting down with Poppy to give a deeper-than-usual look at his life, career journey, approach to leadership and why he’s willing to speak up on the social issues that affect us all.
Chip and Poppy talk through a number of sustainability initiatives here at LS&Co., including how we’re working to save water through initiatives like Water<Less, using more sustainable fibers, implementing laser technology and creating consumer campaigns like Buy Better, Wear Longer.
Other key topics included Chip and LS&Co.’s decision to advocate for gun violence prevention, how we address human rights violations within our supply chain, our thoughts on company operations in China and our track record of speaking out about issues that impact the communities we live and operate in.
As Chip told Poppy: “When we weigh in on anything, we have three filters: 1. Does it matter to our employees? 2. Do we think we can make a difference? And 3. — which is probably the hardest one — will the test of time show that we were on the right side of the issue?”
Chip said the motto he lives by and leads with is to “choose the harder right over the easier wrong.” The episode delves into how his experiences and role models growing up helped shape his values-driven approach to leadership.
