As a company, we know that diverse perspectives make us stronger and being able to bring your full self to work – regardless of race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality or religion – is a must.
Today, we are honored to be recognized by Forbes as one of this year’s “Best Employers for Diversity” in the U.S. We ranked #353 among 500 companies on the 2019 list based on our diversity policies.
Forbes worked with research firm Statista to compile the definitive list, surveying 50,000 U.S. employees on the topics of age, gender equality, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQ+ and general diversity. Other factors incorporated were the gender split of companies’ management teams and boards, and whether a company proactively communicated about diversity.
Our core values of originality, empathy, courage, and integrity have guided not only how we operate as a company, but how we treat every person who touches our business, from the workers who make our products to employees to consumers. And our history of supporting diversity-related causes is proof of that commitment.
In the 1960s, we integrated our factories a decade before it was required by law. In the early 1980s, we joined the fight against HIV/AIDS early on. Furthermore, our president and CEO, Chip Bergh, was one of the first company leaders to join the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ and has been on the front lines of efforts to protect Dreamers knowing that diversity and inclusivity makes our company better and our country stronger (after all, Levi Strauss himself was an immigrant).
“At LS&Co., we believe it’s essential for our people to add their voice to our incredible culture, so that together we can make an outsized impact on the world,” said Elizabeth Wood, Chief Human Resources Officer for LS&Co. said. “In each decision we strive to include diverse perspectives that together make us stronger. We are grateful for this recognition, and proud of our employees who have made it possible.”
Creating a space where everyone contributes to the conversation is not only valued here at Levi Strauss & Co., it’s also good business. And that’s a win-win for all.
