Over the past few months, the world has suffered an unnerving amount of natural disasters. And with our strong retail presence in the areas impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, as well as near the Northern California wildfires, many of these disasters have hit close to home for our store employees.
Inspired to help those around them, the U.S. and Canada retail teams looked to see how they could make a meaningful impact. It turns out that socks are among those items needed the most but donated the least.
And with that, Socktober was born. The goal? Collect 10,000 pairs of socks in the month of October.
“In retail, we are always looking for creative and engaging ways for our teams to give back to the communities we are in,” said District Manager Kristen Tupa. “Socktober was a great way to bring awareness not only to the needs of those impacted by natural disasters but also to the needs of our local homeless shelters.”
With just a few bins in store backrooms and a little friendly competition to be the top collecting store, the team not only met their goal — they exceeded it by 300 pairs.
“This amazing team of people that I get to work with in retail never ceases to amaze me with their drive, passion and commitment to help others,” Kristen said.
