Ask Levi Strauss & Co. CEO Chip Bergh what he credits as the key to his success and he doesn’t talk about any personal accomplishments; instead he gives credit to his team.
“I’m a big believer that it’s all about the people you surround yourself with, the leadership that you develop inside the company,” Chip told the San Francisco Business Times.
Being able to attract top talent is one reason Chip credits his recent recognition by the Business Times as one of this year’s Most Admired CEOs of the San Francisco Bay Area. He is also recognized for the strategic decisions he’s made over his five-year tenure, including his investment in establishing the Eureka Innovation Lab here in San Francisco and landing the naming-rights deal to the home of the San Francisco 49ers, Levi’s® Stadium.
Still, it’s Chip’s commitment to strong talent that has allowed him to build a leadership team that comprises of some of the best around.
“His leadership is why I chose to make this big leap to join the company,” Carrie Ask, EVP and president of global retail, told the Business Times. That leap took her away from her role as vice president and general manager of Nike stores.
