While most of LS&Co. celebrated our global day of service, Community Day, in May, this year, our Singapore employees celebrated a bit later, during the summer. On June 20, Community Ambassadors organized three projects to provide companionship to those in need. All told, 100 LS&Co. employees gave 330 hours to help 104 elderly people and children.
Quite often, the elderly are unable to leave their homes due to a lack of health or finances. In partnership with FaithActs, a nonprofit charity, a group of 40 employees buddied up with 50 seniors on a tour of the world’s largest aquarium. They boarded a “sailing ship” (in actuality, a 360-degree multisensory theater) and capped off the morning with a game of bingo.
Through our new partner, Club Rainbow, 35 employees joined a group of 24 chronically ill children and their families at Bollywood Veggies, a 10-acre biodiversity farm. They led the children, aged 6 to 12, on a guided tour and treasure hunt, and finished off the day by potting a seedling to take home as a souvenir.
Another 25 employees took 30 children on a water adventure to the Port of Lost Wonder. The children, aged 4 to 11, live in temporary housing provided by our long-term Community Day partner Lakeside Family Services. Entertainment included a storytelling session on recycling and an opportunity to decorate pencil cases made from Levi’s® denim off-cuts, with both young and old having a splashing good time at the water park.
Willie Chien, senior counselor at Lakeside Family Services, said, “I am very impressed by LS&Co. staff and volunteers, who really mingled and played with all the kids, making their day so bright! I’m sure these fond memories will stay with the staff and kids for a long, long time.”
Thank you to all of our Singapore employees who made the day of people in your community’s just a bit brighter!
