Last week, on May 25, major landmarks in Prague were illuminated in red: the Žižkov Television Tower, Prague Lighthouse and City Hall. In fact, thousands of candles burned bright in more than 115 countries around the world in commemoration of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial.
Coordinated by the Global Network of People Living With HIV, this memorial is one of the world’s largest global campaigns for HIV/AIDS awareness. Started in 1983, it takes place every third Sunday in May and is led by a coalition of 1,200 community organizations.
The day also serves as an opportunity to raise social consciousness about HIV and AIDS. With 33 million people living with HIV today, this year’s global theme of “Let’s Keep the Light on HIV” underscores the need for global solidarity, breaking down barriers of stigma and discrimination, and giving hope to new generations.
In support of Light Up Prague 2014, and in line with LS&Co.’s commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS, Levi’s® retail staff displayed posters in our four stores, distributed information leaflets and collected small donations benefiting the local event organizer, Czech AIDS Help Society.
We’re proud of the work our Levi’s® Czech Retail team does every day and especially last week, raising awareness and shedding light on a disease that impacts so many around the world.
