Today, we are excited to announce that we have elected Yael Garten of Apple Inc. as a new Levi Strauss & Co. board member. With more than a decade of experience in data science under her belt, Yael currently directs Siri data science and engineering for Apple Inc.
“As we continue our digital transformation and infuse data and analytics into our business, we are expanding the board’s expertise in that area,” said Stephen C. Neal, chair of the board of Levi Strauss & Co. “Yael’s deep business acumen and expertise will help LS&Co. drive agility, productivity, and consumer experience as we design the future of our organization.”
In 2010, Garten founded gNetics Systems Inc., a consulting firm where she advised companies on how to transform data into insights. She also spent more than five years at LinkedIn, where she led a team focused on online experimentation and analyses to generate user experience insights to inform product strategy.
Along with her industry experience, Yael holds a Ph.D. in biomedical informatics from Stanford University School of Medicine, where she was a research scientist and text mining lead. She also holds an MSc from Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.
Yael remains active in education as an advisory board member for Northwestern University’s graduate program in analytics. She has written articles for HBR and Forbes, is a frequent conference speaker, and is passionate about growing the number of women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
