The Levi Strauss Foundation has been named “Best Corporate Donor of 2019” by Inside Philanthropy which seeks to increase oversight, effectiveness and transparency in the field through profiles of big philanthropic foundations and wealthy donors.
In designating the honor, the publication noted that “While most corporate foundations are busy aligning philanthropy with business interests, the Levi Strauss Foundation focuses on marginalization, and how it can do the most good through work supporting LGBTQ communities and worker rights.”
For nearly 70 years, the Levi Strauss Foundation has embraced the energy and events of our time to advance pioneering social change in the areas of HIV/AIDS, worker rights, worker well-being and social justice. In 2019, the foundation:
- Reached 219,000 apparel workers through our Worker Well-being initiative;
- Allocated $1.0 million to a Strategic Response Fund for the third year in a row, which supported organizations that protected the civil liberties of highly vulnerable communities across the United States and abroad – including immigrants, refugees, the transgender community and religious minorities; and
- Continued to support the policy change and advocacy work of leading activist organizations addressing the social injustice and inequalities that help to fuel the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
While we are humbled by the recognition, we share this honor with our incredible community partners who embody Levi Strauss & Co.’s values – originality, empathy, integrity and courage – and work tirelessly every day on the front lines of social change around the globe.
